2010 Jan. - Aug.

Hello Friends of Jazz,

If you joined us for the June evening with pianist Joanne Brackeen, you know we’ve booked another great season of artists for 2010-2011. Can you believe we are going into our fourth year and are completing another successful summer membership drive?

This year’s Boise Jazz Society subscription series features—pianist Roger Kellaway’s Trio with guitarist Bruce Forman—Brazilian Percussionist Mauricio Zottarelli’s Quintet, and the Lorca Hart Trio and vocalist Kenny Washington.  All these internationally–distinguished jazz performers will be right here in Boise!

Your BJS membership of $95.40 (same as last year) entitles you to great seating at all three concerts in the series at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy where we continue to keep our performances intimate, in the style of a NYC jazz club with adult-beverages available and snacks provided.

By joining the Jazz Society you help to create a vibrant and alive jazz scene throughout the year. Even if you can’t attend all the concerts, your membership contributes to our Boise Jazz Society mission of raising an awareness of the art of jazz, supports educational residencies and workshops for students, and promotes local and regional jazz artists.

Your Boise Jazz Society membership also supports our Free, Community Jazz Symposia accompanying each of our concerts. We call them “inform-ances”—music, conversation, and an interchange of ideas in a convivial atmosphere, where we meet, hear, and interact with the series artists, gaining insight into their music and a deeper understanding of jazz.

Plus, we also present a number of BJS “members only” extras: living-room jazz concerts, jazz listening and film parties, and jazz lectures. In fact, we’ve already booked the great French pianist, Jean–Michel Pilc to perform at the Boise Blue Note on Thursday evening, October 21, 2010.  So make sure your new membership is paid and then contact me to reserve one of 40 seats at Chuck’s Place—first come–first served.

As many have sung,

Oh, it's a long, long while, from May to December
But the days grow short, when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game

So let’s get those memberships in!  Just download the season flyer on the website, fill it out, and send it in with your check—don’t forget to add the dates to your yearly calendar.

Still diggin’ the Summertime and the Watermelon Man,

Mike Samball

PS:  Please send me the contact information on anyone that you believe might be rightly or remotely interested in the art of live jazz—right here in Boise.
