Lorca Hart Trio with Kenny Washington

lorcaFebruary 27, 2011
Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy, Boise

Lorca grew up in Taos, New Mexico. Coming from a musical family, he was
exposed to a variety of music and instruments as a child. He attended California Institute of the Arts from 1992 - 96, graduating with a BFA in Jazz Percussion Performance and studying under Albert "Tootie" Heath, Joe La Barbera, Charlie Haden, Wadada Leo Smith, and others.

Since that time Lorca has worked consistently in a variety of musical situations, performing with many of the West Coast's (and beyond) finest artists including : Ralph Moore, Carmen Lundy, Freddie Hubbard, Calvin Keys, Craig Handy, Kyle Eastwood, Herman Riley, Azar Lawrence, Red Holloway, Plas Johnson, John Heard, Danny Grissett, Justo Almario, Bennie Maupin, Phil Ranelin, Dave Pike, Don Menza, Hugh Masekela, Bobby Rodriguez, the Clayton Brothers, Anthony Wilson, Julian Lage, storyteller/radio personality Joe Frank, actor/musicians Jeff Goldblum and Peter Weller, Ronald Muldrow, and the Cross Hart Jazz Experience (the project that he co-leads with bass player Ryan Cross). He also leads his own trio featuring Josh Nelson on piano and Edwin Livingston on bass. Lorca can be heard on recordings by Hugh Masekela, John Heard, Justo Almario, Ronald Muldrow, Dave Pike, Phil Ranelin, the Cross Hart Jazz Experience, and the Lorca Hart Trio.

Lorca teaches drumset at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, as well as teaching ensemble classes at both the Healdsburg High School and Junior High School in Sonoma County, Cailfornia.

Kenny is a jazz vocalist virtuoso. If you have never heard this New Orleans native sing before, get ready for a jaw dropping experience. Emulating the classic styles of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn and infusing colors of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, Kenny's free, playful approach, with a seeming limitless, four-octave range, is awe inspiring.

Esther's Place, Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy, Boise

Roger has been described as "a musical chameleon" and "the most awesome jazz pianist quite possibly anywhere on earth". His discography runs to more than two hundred fifty albums. He's performed with everyone from Elvis to Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie to Yo Yo Ma, Joni Mitchell to Mancini and Quincy Jones to Michael Tilson Thomas.

The Roger Kellaway Trio performing for the Boise Jazz Society is a tribute to the piano/bass/guitar trios of the past, including those led by Art Tatum, Nat Cole and, particularly, the great, hard swinging Oscar Peterson trios from the fifties that featured Ray Brown on bass and Barney Kessel & Herb Ellis on guitar.  Roger brings with him guitarist Bruce Forman and bassist Dan Lutz, all-stars in their own right.

Take a listen to Roger Kellaway With Bruce Forman on "Killer Joe"
